Congratulations to Erica, our Student of the Week! Our school walkathon is this Friday(fingers croossed for no rain). Parents are invited to come walk with the students. Have the students dress accordingly (still in school uniform), bring a water bottle, and wear sunscreen! Please have the students try to get pledges, and return the envelopes by Thursday! The PTO have worked really hard and we have great prizes. This is such a wonderful way to walk for textbooks for our school! The person with the highest donations will win a MP4 player! If our class meets our goal of $500, we will win a banana split party, and Mrs. Roberts and I will dress up in a costume to cheer on our class during the walkathon! Our PTO needs volunteers for Teacher Appreciation Day May 15th. Please check Canyon Grove's Facebook Page for information. We still would love Parent Volunteers to come and help in the classrooom.
In Math this week, we are continuing Order of Operations. Many were sent home with homework today. Please check their backpacks, and have them bring the finished work back in to be graded. In Reading, we are doing Guided Reading. Many students are almost finished, and are enjoying the books. In Writing, we are starting Memoirs. The students get to choose what genre they will write in, Poetry, Persuasive Essay, ect., as long as it has a theme that's important to them. We are out of pens, as it's close to the end of the year. If you have any pens at home our class can have, we'll take them off your hands! Thank you so much for all of the help we've had this year. I would like to give a special thanks to Lauren's mom, and Matthew's mom, and Brandon's mom, who have come consistently to our classroom to help! I know it has been a sacrifice for you, and from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! :)

spring? through April 19
The weeks are flying by us. Miss Pohlig is getting married in two weeks!! Collin was our student of the week. I'll be eating lunch with him on Tuesday. We have moved on from Biographies, straight to Poetry. The kids have embraced poetry. They are excited everyday to work on their collections. They love to read about poetry, and they are excelling on writing poetry. Miss. Pohlig cried a few times while reading some of their beautiful pieces they are composing. We are finishing up Division in Math. Please, Please, keep practicing Times Tables at HOME! We are reading Love That Dog, which is a poetry book. The students are loving poetry as much as biographies. We have having some problems with students being mean to each other. We have talked to the students, and would love if being bullied/ or being the bully could be addressed at home. Also, remember to study the spelling words with your children. Next week, we have state testing. Please have the students at school on time, having eaten a balanced breakfast, for best scores. We know they are going to do great. Also, If any of you parents would like to go in on a gift for Miss. Pohlig, please send a envelope with my name on it, with the check or cash, and I can get her something from the class. Hope you have a good week.

What a fun week we have planned! Today, we were lucky enough to attend "Romeo and Juliet" at PGHS. It was a wonderful performance, and we all had a great time. We are finishing our Biographies tomorrow, and are very excited about our Wax Museum! You are all invited to our Open House Wax Museum. It will be Thursday, from 1:15 -1:45 in room 214. If your child would like to dress up as their subject, that would be great, but it's optional. Everyone should be finished with the Guided Reading books tomorrow. We will begin our class project where the students will show their understanding of the books they read. We sent home report cards on Monday. Our student of the week this week is Lori. She is always willing to help, and is always on task. Friday is our school talent show, and it's the last day before SPRING BREAK!!!! Spring Break is April 1-5. School will resume Monday, April 7th. We look forward to a fun week, and hope you have a wonderful Spring Break!

Another Week has flown by! This week in Math, we have continued working on long division. Please keep working on multiplication at home. Students should be reviewing their spelling words at home EVERYDAY. In Writing, we are finishing up our Biographies. Thursday we will have our Wax Museum. The students have a chance to dress up and give facts about the person they have chosen. Have fun with this activity, be creative. We had a great response to the Talent Show Auditions. Good Luck to everyone who tried out! We can't wait to watch our fellow students perform Friday@ the Talent Show. In Reading, we are finishing up our Guided Reading Books. Please encourage the kids to read at least 20 minutes everyday. It will truly help them become accomplished readers. We are continuing to learn more about prefixes and suffixes. We have also learned the homophones their, there, and they're. Ask your students if they can tell you what each one means. Next week is going to be a super fun week. On Tuesday, we have the opprotunity to go to Romeo and Juliet, and we are in need of 4 parents to chaperone. If you are willing to volunteer, please contact us. We will also have the wax museum, and school talent show! As a Reminder, SPRING BREAK is April 1 -5th. :) Thank you for the opprotunity to teach your children.

March 18-22
Hello parents! (from Miss Pohlig this time)
This week got off to a great start today, as the students still maintained their enthusiasm for the biographies they are writing, and they read intently during reading. We are trying to finish the books we are reading by next Thursday, so they can then do a small project about the book on Thursday and Friday before we go on Spring Break (yay!). In order to do this, a few are being their books home. If they do, please make sure they read it and bring the book back to school the next day so they have it to read in class!
In math, we are continuing to work on long division, and the students seem to be progressing quite well. However, many of them struggle a little with this because they do not know their multiplication facts. Please review these with your child at home! It will make multi-digit multiplication and long division so much easier!
The most exciting news is that next Thursday, March 28, you are all invited to come to the 4th grade wax museum! It will be held from 1:15 - 1:45 in room 214. You are welcome to come any time in between then. The students will dress up as the figures they researched (if desired), and will share with visitors a little about themselves. It will be a very unique Author Celebration, and the students are all excited about it! Please help your child prepare a simple costume and props if they would like. They will still wear school uniforms that day and just change when time for the museum.
Next, we failed to mention that last week, Jared was our Student of the Week! He is always very helpful to teachers and other students, and strives to do well in all of his schoolwork. Way to go Jared!
Hopefully you all received the email from the school containing the newsletter that will now be sent out every week. In it, there was information about a volunteer website we will begin using. Mrs. Connelly and I will be setting this up soon so you can see when and what we need help with.
Thanks for all you do!

March 11-15
Today started a new section of Writing! I think the students are excited to start Biographies. They get to choose who they will write their biographies about. We will be researching people and I can't wait to see how the kids grow as writers. We are also doing a wax museum for the Author Celebration. The students are really excited to be able to play these famous people.
In Math, we started introducing division. Please work with your students on their multiplication facts, as division is ALL multiplication. We have graded the tests on Geometry, and the kids did GREAT!
In Reading, we are still working on Prefixes. The children are getting reading time, and we are reading our fictional books, discussing inference, and context clues.
Please continue to have your students study their spelling. We work on language everyday. The children are amazing, and learning by leaps and bounds. We love your kids, and please let us know if there is anything that we can do to help. We still need pencils, paper, and volunteers for our classroom. Thanks for all of your support!
