storytelling Festival

We are very thrilled to have Quail Run Storytelling Festival on Friday, where the winner from each grade level will tell their stories.  Pratt won from our class, so he will be participating in retelling his story in front of the school.  This is a great opportunity to learn public speaking, and improve on storytelling skills.
Tomorrow we are thrilled to have Museum on the Move come and talk with us about rocks and minerals.  Be sure to ask your children what they thought.  We would love to hear feedback.

We would also like to thank you, parents, for all the paper, pencils, and pens!  We still need sandwich bags, dry/erase markers, erasers, and notebook paper if you would still like to donate.  What we are desperately in  need of is classroom helpers.  If any parents have time to come volunteer, even for an hour, we will take anything/ anytime.  Please email me (Mrs. Connelly) or Miss. Pohlig, or you can just show up. We could especially use helpers from 11 to 12 to help with math, and 1:15 to 3 to help with reading/writing.

Thank you so much for being willing to help us with these kids.  I believe the saying is true "It takes a village to raise a child."  These kids are outstanding, smart, and we feel grateful to be able to grow with them.

Mrs. Connelly is taking over!!! (the blog)

First of all, we sincerely apologize for not updating this weekly.  From this point on, I will make a concerted effort to post weekly comings and goings of our class!  This is my first time ever writing a blog! Yay for me!  With that said, each week I will  do a little recap of what we have been doing and what will be coming up.

We work on our spelling every day.  We only get 15 min of spelling, and any extra time at home will make a huge difference on their scores. The spelling words are listed on the blog also.

We are very excited to announce our STUDENT OF THE WEEK!  This week Elise stood out to us as teachers.  Elisa always does her work, she is respectful, kind to others and made an impression to Miss Pohlig and me.  She will get a note home to her parents, and she got a certificate, and she and I will have a special lunch together in the teachers lounge. So, congratulations to her.

As many of you know, we are finishing our books that the children wrote. We are now illustrating pictures.  This is the fun part of the writing, where all the hard work gets to be seen!  They have all worked so hard, and we are so proud. We have also started working on our essays.  Getting the thesis, and then have topic sentences that supports the thesis.  Please ask your children to show you theirs. Any additional help they can get at home would be wonderful!

In Math this week, we have been learning geometry.  We are learning about Lines, Angles, Quadrilaterals, and today we learned circumference and radius and diameter.  We are learning about obtuse angles (angles more than 90) and acute angles(angles less than 90) and right angles (form a 90 degree angle) We also just finished multiplication.  The children have cards that they can pass off with us for a special treat.  They are working on getting all them passed off and we can have a party.
